Hampstead Garden Suburb Project by Studio Ypsilon

We’re delighted to have been chosen as the electrical accessory supplier by Studio Ypsilon for one of their recent projects in London. We’ve teamed up with Yiannis Stylianou, the Creative Director of Studio Ypsilon to discover more about the wonderful design and the accessories Yiannis chose to complement the interior of this elegant home.

Where was the property located?

The property was located on a quaint tree-lined road in the Hampstead Garden Suburb conservation area, North London.

What was the client’s brief?

The homeowners were a lovely couple who decided to downsize and move closer to their children and grandkids. The property is a 1910 Arts and Crafts style semi-detached cottage with four bedrooms. The client’s brief was to create a sanctuary with all their favourite objects and colours. They wanted quality, warmth and richness, without it being ostentatious.

What were the electricals like before?

The electrical elements in the property prior to any work were very dated and had not changed in over 30 years. We completely re-designed the electrical fixtures and lighting throughout the property. Afterall, true luxury is making your senses feel good: lighting, music, touch, smell.

How did you decide on the electricals?

We decided on the electrical fixtures based on the design aesthetic and materiality of our proposal for this beautiful Arts and Crafts property. We wanted a pared-back, clean look for all the electrical elements in a Matt Bronze finish to complement the joinery and furniture finishes.

Which electricals from Heritage Brass were chosen and why?

We chose the Studio Range from Heritage Brass, which is our “go-to” line. This line has a minimal yet luxurious aesthetic, which complements every interior.

Why did you go for this décor?

The property’s original Arts and Crafts elements in combination with our clients’ love for bright colours and our modern, open plan layout inspired us to create a scheme that feels relaxed, with high quality materials and finishes.

How important are the finishing touches?

The finishing touches can make or break a space, however good the spatial design is. We used some of our clients’ existing loved pieces that complement the newly designed furniture and joinery to bring this home to life.
