Product Care

Lacquered Finishes

Many metals suffer from surface tarnishing if left exposed to the atmosphere.

Surfaces can be protected with the application of different protective finishes, such as paint, metal coating or lacquer.

We apply a clear lacquer to our products which forms a protective surface layer; but does not detract from the inherent beauty of the product.

The life of the lacquer can be affected by many environmental or atmospheric conditions, including sea air and industrial pollution.

Polished Brass, Satin Nickel, Antique Brass, Matt Bronze, Satin Brass and Satin Rose Gold are all lacquered finishes.

To help maintain the lacquered finish, we recommend the following: -

  • Keep it clean by removing dust or liquids from the surface with a soft non-abrasive cloth.
  • Do not use metal cleaners or aerosol sprays as these will damage the lacquer coating.
  • Avoid impact with rings, keys and other metallic objects which may damage the lacquer.

With maintenance and by reducing the risk of scratching, the life of the lacquer can be prolonged.

Supplementary Information on Selected Finishes

Antique Brass

To create this finish our solid brass products are firstly oxidised to create a dark patina.

This patina is then removed by hand, partially revealing the brass below, making each piece unique with variations in colour and tone and a clear lacquer is applied.

Polished Chrome and Satin Chrome

Regularly removing dirt and watermarks and buffing with a nonabrasive cloth will help maintain the life of these finishes.

Matt Bronze

To create our Matt Bronze finish, we have oxidised the brass surface to produce a dark brown patina and a clear lacquer is applied.

Over a period of time any edges and surfaces that are frequently touched will expose the brass below creating a naturally aged appearance.

Expect this finish to change naturally over time.

Polished Nickel

Our Polished Nickel finish is nickel plating on highly polished brass.

The nickel finish is not lacquered, it is a "living finish" which means it will change naturally over time. The finish will oxidise to create a misty patina which can be removed from the surface or left to age gracefully.

Expect this finish to change naturally over time.

Black Iron Rustic

By powder coating our iron products we create a Matt Black finish which is both attractive and durable.

As the name suggests this range has imperfections on the surface which are retained to create the rustic appearance.

To protect the finish please avoid impact with other metal items and remove dust and water from the surface with a soft non-abrasive cloth.

Solid Bronze Rustic

Our Solid Bronze finishes are coated with a wax paste to prevent immediate oxidisation.

Both of our Bronze finishes are "living finishes", and therefore as the wax is slowly removed with usage, the bronze below will be exposed to the atmosphere and will start to change colour.

Most visibly the frequently touched areas will lighten with use creating a naturally aged appearance.

Expect this finish to change naturally over time.
